Wish me luck.

No blogging for me over the holiday weekend. As you read this, I’m in one of my favorite places in the world, Las Vegas. And chances are…I’m sidled up to a poker table somewhere. As I like to say, “I don’t believe in gambling. But poker’s a whole different thing.”

So it’s no slots or roulette for me. I’ll leave that for the folks who have money to throw away. I’d rather agonize over every penny and chip and do my best to squeeze every dime I can out of the players around me. It’s a great thrill.  And keeps me going for hours and hours. Hopefully, I’ll have lots of good stories to share with you guys when I get back. As long I stick to my NO ATM VISITS policy, I should be fine.

Don’t look for a whole lot of content until mid-week. I’m doing the red eye thing back into NC Tuesday morning. So I probably won’t be a lot of fun for at least 48 hours. Hope your Labor Day weekend is a great one. Be back soon…

Awesome Arcs.

Courtesy of Joe

With the deluge of rain we’re getting, I thought this was quite appropriate. This particular shot was taken back in 1983 on Lake Ontario. Nice job on the pic, Joe. Nice job on the light show, God. You can see way more cool pics of good old electricity arcs here.

More Guitars. Jesus-Style.

So you like the idea of Guitar Hero. You’re thinking to yourself: “Man, I bet I can really shred in my living room.” But at the same time, you’re thinking that maybe all those heavy doses of hard rock could be way too worldly to bring into your home. Well, you’re in luck.

GET YOUR WORSHIP ON, video-game style.

It’s called  “Guitar Praise – Solid Rock.” And it comes out in September. And you better believe that soon you’ll be breaking off some Jesus Freak DCTalk-style. And as dorky as it is, I gotta give props to the music list. DCB, Skillet, Family Force Five. There’s some good music in there.

I ain’t afraid. And I know my boy James “Toby Mac” Thrasher ain’t, either. I saw that fool bust out last Sunday at the Summit. And I know das reet. Can I get a witness, ya’ll?

I like guitars (funky ones).

I submit for your viewing and listening enjoyment a bit of guitar play between the widely known John Mayer and the not-so-widely know David Ryan Harris. JM’s on tour right now…came through Raleigh and Charlotte in the last two weeks. And I was not there for either show. This financial discipline thing really sucks.

Light Drums.

I don’t know when. And I don’t know how. But MuteMath is going to release their new CD at some point. And I will be waiting.

You’re not hearing everything in your music.

Would you pay $350 for a set of headphones? Me neither. I just can’t justify dropping that kind of jack on a “want” item. But I’m telling you straight up…if I did roll like that…these headphones are worth it.

I had read about “Beats by Dr. Dre” a month or two ago. Turns out that Dr. Dre was frustrated with most consumer level headphones. Couldn’t find anything he liked to carry around with him. So when a company approached him with the idea of creating a new set with his name on it, he jumped on it. And here they are.

I tried them on two weeks ago while I was waiting on my iPhone at the Apple Store, and I couldn’t believe how good the sound quality was. The highs and the lows were incredible. You could absolutely hear everything. Felt like you were right there in the studio with the artist. And beyond that, they’re absolutely the most comfortable headphones I’ve ever worn in my life. I could keep these on for hours. They are sweet. And don’t just take my word for it.

Somebody hook me up.
